A life in movement

1975: Growing up in a very musical household I express my love for dance at a very young age.  My mother finally takes me to a Ballet class. Completely devoted I go every day after school.

1985: To also get a formal education after finishing high school I apply for a program in Physical Therapy. I love the combination of two of my big interests: movement and medicine.

1988: Exam in Physical Therapy at the PT school of the Orthopedic University Hospital in Heidelberg-Schlierbach , Germany. During study breaks I sneak away to the theater to take dance class. Wonderful memories there.

1988: Move to West-Berlin to pursue dance. I participate in a professional dance program and also work part time as a Physical Therapist in a private practice, treating a wide spectrum of clients with orthopedic and neurological impairments. I immensely enjoy living in this vibrant town surrounded by a wall. As I start to get more work as a dancer I have to put my PT work on hold. I dance nationally and abroad until I follow the advice of my teachers to go to the United States. Dance study trips to New York and Los Angeles follow.

1992: I initially intend to be in LA for six months, but then I'm awarded a Dance Scholarship at EDGE Performing Arts Center, Hollywood, CA . After a showcase I sign with a dance-agent . Six months turn into a year and so on...

1992-2000: I join the Screen Actors Guild and work as a dancer in Stage-, TV-and Movie- Productions.

1999/2000: An injury forces me to rethink my career. Marie-Jose Blom's 'Advances in Pilates Technique' Teacher Training in Long Beach proves to be just the right blend of my dance and Physical Therapy background. After course completion I work at her studio 'LA Body Kinetics' in Culver City, CA.

2001-2003: At the studio I fall in love with the very fluid dance-like moves of the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. I get my Gyrotonic Level 1, GYROKINESIS® Level 1 and Gyrotonic Ladder Certification with Lisa Marie -Goodwin-Rice.

2002:  Across the street from my boyfriends house in Venice a place called 'Sacred Movement' opens. Curious, I take my first Yoga class there and am thoroughly intrigued. Max Strom's beautiful studio in Venice is the sanctuary I need to recharge and take care of myself . To learn more about the practice and it's rich history I take Max' Vinyasa Flow Hatha-Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles and Berlin. After his departure I continue and deepen my studies with the amazing Erich Schiffmann. Upon his suggestion I meditate more regularly.

2005: LA Body Kinetics closes and with 4 other colleagues we open our own space in Culver City 'LA Body Corps'.

2014: After meeting the engaging Prof. Robert Schleip at a seminar in LA , I am so taken by his new findings in the recent research of the body's Fascial System, that I go to Munich, Germany and take the Fascial Fitness Teacher Training with him and his wife.

2005-2018: over the years I take workshops to keep myself on my toes. The following are my favorites: Michelle Larson (Eve-Gentry Pilates and Pilates for Scoliosis w/Marie Jose), Tom Myers (Anatomy Trains for movement therapists), Phillip Beach (Muscles and Meridians), Eric Franklin (the Franklin Method) Hillary Cartwright (Gyrotonic Applications for Hip replacements), Juergen Bamberger (Gyrotonic Psoas principles), Prof. Andry Vleeming (Clinical Application of Functional Anatomy).

2018: I continue to love my weekly dance classes. In my work I am interested in a fun, creative and interdisciplinary approach. I enjoy blending everything I know into a tailored custom session for my clients.

The highlight this year was attending the ‘International Fascia Research Congress’ in Berlin. So inspiring to hear first hand from these brilliant researchers from all over the world about the latest findings in this new and exciting field.

2019: This February I was delighted to learn the Sensory Motor Balancing Technique from my long trusted and brilliant chiropractor and acupuncturist Dr. Robert Jeffrey. It really provides the missing link in my practice. A unique tool to re-set the nervous system via un-blocking firing patterns that have lead to dysfunction and chronic pain.

2020-2023: The year 2020 has provided us all with immense challenges and the need to adapt to a new normal. My lovely clientele did shift to a safe online practice. This has given me the opportunity to become much more creative as a teacher. I got to improve my verbal cueing and observation and create fun new exercises with and without props. A big ‘Thank You’ goes also to Eric Franklin for his fantastic webinars. I am happy that we are now safely back to in-person instruction, but several of my clients have come to appreciate the online practice as a convenient and valuable alternative .
